Direct Primary Care Q&A

What is direct primary care (DPC)?

Direct primary care is a retainer-based healthcare model that provides a full range of primary care services for a flat monthly service charge. Though similar to concierge medicine, DPC offers much lower fees overall. Additionally, your monthly fee covers a portion of the primary care services covered.

DPC allows you to access medical care whenever you need it. As a DPC member, you can visit The Wellness Institute of Fort Myers at any time to receive monthly prescription refills, immunizations, preventive care, or acute care.

What services does direct primary care include?

At The Wellness Institute of Fort Myers, the team offers an array of services under the DPC umbrella, including:

Routine care

Routine care is a blanket term used to describe regular care provided by your primary care physician. At The Wellness Institute of Fort Myers, the team regularly conducts physical exams, annual checkups, and health screenings. They also help patients manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

Preventive screenings

Preventive screenings work to catch serious health problems early on when they’re easiest to treat. Depending on your age and health history, your doctor might recommend a Pap test, prostate exam, breast cancer screening, or blood pressure monitoring. Many of these conditions don’t present symptoms in their early stages. Hence, preventive screenings have the power to save your life.

Prescription refills

If you take prescription medications or you use medical marijuana, the team also provides prescription refills. As a DPC member, you can call the office at any time to request a refill. The team always tries to fill prescriptions within 24 hours.

Specialist referrals

The team at The Wellness Institute of Fort Myers diagnoses and treats most diseases, but if you require more intensive care, they can refer you to a specialist in the area. The team regularly coordinates care and will work with you to ensure they meet your needs.

Is there anything else I should know about direct primary care?

To participate in DPC, you must pay a monthly retainer fee. The size of the monthly retainer fee you pay depends on the services you need and your goals for health management. The team at The Wellness Institute of Fort Myers requires all DPC members to pay in cash.
